In today’s digital world, there are countless sources of wedding inspiration. But it can also become overwhelming and challenging to choose one aesthetic and stick with it. Makena and Rashaad envisioned a rooftop downtown Calgary wedding celebration that felt less like a traditional wedding and more like an immersive fashion experience. Asked to dress in all black attire, guests were an intentional party of the aesthetic inspired by the Met Gala.
The ceremony took place on the rooftop of a Calgary heritage building under a brilliant blue sky. Circular seating framed panoramic views of the city skyline, with live music creating a relaxed and joyful atmosphere. The couple had a clear vision for their wedding day, and every moment remained true to it. Keep reading for some inspiration that helped them plan the wedding they had always dreamed of.
The on-site prep suite provided plenty of space for the bride and her bridesmaids to get ready, rather than rushing in a cramped room. The group left plenty of time to get ready and create looks that suited their style and personality.
Embracing trust and creative freedom, several bridesmaids brought multiple dress options and selected their final looks while hair and makeup were underway. The approach felt authentic to the couple and aligned with the fashion-driven spirit of the day. Calgary-based designer NRT Fashions created the bride’s gown, along with custom couture for her mother, father, and officiant. The designer even came to help Makena into her gown and make sure everything was just right.
Cocktail hour took place on the rooftop and the fourth floor, a stylish space with mirrored walls. The couple took cues from Indian wedding traditions and stayed seated on the rooftop as they welcomed each guest for photos. This time left space for greetings and conversations with their closest people.
Guests entered the main ballroom for dinner. Chair Flair transformed the space with soft drapery, tall floral arrangements, chandeliers, and interactive food stations. The couple planned to move to London, England after the wedding, so they added a classic phone booth to mark the start of their new chapter.
