Katelyn and David had a beautiful spring wedding at Silvertip Resort in Canmore, Alberta. The weather in the area had been fluctuating between spring temperatures and doses of winter leading up to the big day, but we ended up with perfect spring weather for their wedding. These two met at a house party nearly nine years ago and moved from Ontario to Alberta to start a life together in the Canadian Rockies.
We started the day with getting-ready photos, and the guys had one request—photos with the foosball table. We made it happen! This is why it's important to let your photographer know what's important to you on your wedding day and any must-have moments captured. Next, it was time to meet Katelyn at the Malcolm Hotel, where she and her wedding party were prepping. It was a relaxed morning as she took time to finish her vows, get pampered with hair and makeup, and enjoy the company of her closest friends.
Katelyn and David decided not to do a first look, so there was a lot of anticipation for the ceremony, held on the patio at Silvertip Resort. I always love seeing each partner's reaction as the processional happens—it's always great even if the couple's done a first look. There's something so special about that moment, and it's one of my favourite parts of the day to capture. After the ceremony, we did family portraits using the beautiful ceremony arrangements created by Blue Lakes Floral Design as a backdrop before heading off for wedding party portraits. One of the great things about Silvertip is that you don't have to leave the resort to do photos if you're tight on time, and there are other locations a short drive away if you want to change things up. Katelyn and David didn't want to do a long portrait session so they could enjoy cocktail hour with their guests, so we made the most of our time so they could get back to their people and celebrate with them. Ultimately, a wedding day isn't a photo shoot, so be sure to let your photographer know if you want to make it to cocktail hour or not! It's your day, and you get to decide how you spend it.
The team at Silvertip served up a delicious dinner (as always), which was punctuated by heartfelt speeches. We snuck out for a few quick golden hour photos before the dancing got underway. I always ask couples if they want to do golden hour photos, and they're never required— even if they thought they wanted to during our consultations. See how you feel on the day. It can be a nice way to steal a few quiet moments with your new spouse before the party kicks off, and the photos look a bit more relaxed than the other portraits, but you can also opt-out. The choice is always yours.
All the best, Katelyn and David!
