Welcoming a newborn into your family is a big step, whether it's your first baby or not. It's often advised to do these sessions within two weeks of the baby's birth, but this can be a lot of pressure on parents. There are a lot of adjustments to make, no one is getting any sleep, and moms are recovering from giving birth. If you're feeling up for a session during the first two weeks, that's great! If not, give yourself some time and book it a little later. Evie was about six weeks old when we did this session, and she was still very much a newborn.
Parents also often ask me if they can bring older children to the session, and the answer is always yes! Becoming an older sibling is a huge step for them too, and it's nice to capture this time in their lives. Edie's older sister Ruby joined us for the session and she was such a sweetheart. Her big personality made for plenty of cute candid moments.
This session was also shot at Studio Atelier in downtown Calgary, which is one of my favourite studios. It features a neutral colour palette and a few different shooting areas within the space. This gives your clients plenty of variety in their gallery, and the decor can complement various aesthetics. Bonus: There's even a change table to accommodate little ones.
